Ok - not too technological today. But fun. I have been pegged to post a meme by my friend Fran Thorsen. The rules are:  list 7 things about yourself, then tag 7 people.  Here we go:

1. I am an expert Jewish folk dancer - know many unknown dances, and do my family proud at weddings and Bar (Bat) Mitzvahs.

2. I love skiing. I am going to Montana next week to teach and SKI! Yay. Both downhill and cross country. I cross country on a golf course here in CT when we get enough snow.

3. I climbed Mt. Washington (New Hampshire and New Englands highest peak at 6, 288 ft. with a 40 lb. back pack, 3 girl friends  and two skins of wine.

4. I went to Russia in 2006 and went on a river cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Met lots of my husband’s relatives and their friends. Loved it because my husband is fluent and everyone thought he was Russian (his beard gave him away) very few beards in Russia.

5. I am hoping to get to Australia to speak as my son is studying there this semester. Do you know anyone who will hire me? I will miss him.

6. I have been doing Yoga for many years and find it to be great exercise. My favorite retreat is Kripalu near Lenox, Ma. I like to go in the summer for the R&R weekend. Yoga three times a day, amazing food, a lake to swim in, a full service spa and walk over to Tanglewood for a concert. BTW - James Taylor tickets go on sale Feb. 2 for the July 3 and 4 2008 concert. Bring a blanket, a picnice and enjoy the concert in the park.

7. Just bought my 80 something parents a device called MyCelery. Everyone can email them or send photos and it all comes through their fax machine and prints out the email and photos for them. So staying in touch with everyone is a breeze. They just can’t get the hang of the computer.

Boy - that was fun.

The email enabled smartphone is THE TOOL for REALTORS in 2008.  Whether you purchase a Blackberry, a TREO or a windows enabled handheld you need to stay connected with your clients and customers. For those who use the TREO I recently attended a convention in Seattle Washington where I taught a class for Windermere Real Estate. I met a representative from PALM and he give me some great links for training that I would like to share with you. Please check out this link for self paced learning guides.  This is training for the TREO and Centro and how to set up the email. This is really good training. Enjoy

Headline in the newspaper - “Chi Trib Dumps Print Classifieds”

Okay, we could say “WE TOLD YOU SO”, but would you have listened? Yes, and you have. Many of us have made the final move to online marketing and it has enriched our business.

Basically what it says is that the Chicago Tribune has started to limit the amount of classifieds they are printing in the newspaper and “driving” the consumer on line. They are starting with the Help Wanted but it will lead to all classifieds. It is going to cut down on their “printing expenses.” Wow, they are going “Green” as well. Back at ya Chi Trib.

At the Inman Connect Conference I recently attended, Martin Nisenholtz, Sr. VP, Digital Operations, of the New York Times mentioned that they are going to expand their real estate section online to include a multi author blog from the real estate industry. They already  have a mobile version. Check it out at nytimes.com/mobileRE

The Boston Globe does that already. Check out Boston.com  and click on real estate. As Tevye said in “Fiddler on the Roof” - It is a new world, Golda. My real estate friends, we need to heed his advice.

I have been practicing videoblogging with my own little camera and had a chance to do some video with a professional camera crew at TriplePlay. TriplePlay is the convention for New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania (CT,  DE attend also) held every year in Atlantic City. Usually 10,000 REALTORS there. National speakers from all over come to speak (including me Amy Chorew!) and you can get all your education done for a very low fee ($90). Here is a link to one video that I posted at ActiveRain .  http://www.wellcomemat.com/video/CA556723AC

Video two is here for you to see as well.

Definitely a learning curve with the video but I do believe that video has arrived in the real estate industry. We just have to figure out how to use it effectively to market ourselves and our properties. More to come on that.

How not to be a Turkey.
Yes, REALTORS(r) are at it again. Craig from Craigslist speaks to Rachel Natalie Klein from www.inthebox.tv in the Big Apple. A warning from Craig to play it straight on his site. People are watching . . .
